Go For It On Fourth Fan Preview 2018: The Buffalo Bills

Go For It On Fourth Fan Preview 2018: The Buffalo Bills
For my half of the Go For It On Fourth preview for the 2018 NFL season, I decided to ask fans of every team questions about how they think their team will do this season. Instead of asking just one fan per team, I decided to get as many fans as I could involved. For some teams, that was several. For some teams, that was just one fan. But we very much appreciate everyone who got involved in our Preview for the 2018 Season!
Representing the Buffalo Bills:
Dave, Glasgow, @BillsBackersUK
First off, sum up last season for us.
Dave: Up and down. Some great wins, Falcons, chiefs and Raiders. Some horrendous losses, Jets and Chargers spring to mind, but finally the drought was broken!! I went into the season with not very high expectations. McDermott had started to rebuild the entire organisation from the ground up, after the complete disaster that was Rex Ryan. Even the most ardent Bills fan realised that this would take time. Trust the process we were told, it would take time to get the right players and install some discipline. Sneaking in at the death was an added bonus and we are all delighted to be removed from the butt of a lot of jokes!!
How was your offseason?
Dave: It felt that it was fairly quiet. Tyrod Taylor was a loss. Like the bills season he was up and down, and it was hard to justify keeping him for the money he was due. I like the addition of Trent Murphy and Vonte Davis. Re-signing Kyle Williams was massive. He is our leader on and off the field!
Key additions from free agency and the Draft?
Dave: Josh Allen. The future face of the franchise. Hopefully! Out of all the top QB prospects available, he was probably the one I was least keen on. The main fears are his accuracy issues and our rather porous offensive line ruining his career before it’s got started! I like the signing of Tremaine Edmunds, but he is only 20, and I really hope he is given a season or two to develop.
What's your hopes for this coming season?
Dave: Not to be on the clock first next April (laughs). All the out of conference teams we are playing (apart from the lions) look like they will be contenders. The cheats, sorry patriots, will be strong again and the Jets are improving. With so many gaps and uncertainties in our roster, it is hard to see where the touchdowns and wins are going to come from. However, I predicted 4 and 12 at the beginning of last season, so you never know.
What's your thoughts on your starting quarterback?
Dave: It would be nice to know who it is! Both contenders are fairly unknown quantities. Personally I would go with Peterman. He has a season behind him, and has probably looked better prepared in Preseason. He was thrown in at the deep end last year, with disastrous consequences. I just don’t think he was expecting to play and was not at all prepared. As I have said, our offensive line is looking like one of the weakest in the league, so whoever gets the nod, looks like they are going to have a tough time of it!
And your thoughts on your head coach?
Dave: I have been very impressed with McDermott. He has instilled discipline and work ethic into the players. I feel that he has made us a team again, and has rid us of a few big egos and players of questionable character!! He is the polar opposite of Rex Ryan, and I hope he gets the time needed to get us where he wants. At the end of this season we have about $60 million of cap becoming available. I’d imagine that will be the make or break for him.
A player that will be key for you this season?
Dave: Shady McCoy. He is not getting any younger and for too long he has been almost entirely our only offensive weapon. A drop off in production, or injury and it could be long season!
And who would you happily drive to their next club?
Dave: Can’t really think of any, although that may change in the next week or two. I would have said Dareus or Ingonito, but someone has already had the pleasure of doing that!
What made you choose to support your team?
Dave: Can’t really remember. When I started following the NFL the Bills were dominating the AFC and Thurman Thomas was my favourite player. I also remember thinking that they had the best logo! I always thought supporting one of the famous franchises was a bit boring, and I have stuck with them through thin and thinner!
For a first-time NFL fan, tell us some reasons why they should support your team?
Dave: When the Superbowl finally arrives, the party will be like no other. An orchard park tailgate is like no other in the league, with liver destroying drinking with the best fans. New era field is old school and a bit loud. If you want to stand out from the crowd follow the bills.
Compare your team to a European football club.
Dave: Liverpool. Next year is definitely going to be our year
What's the best-case scenario for you this season?
Dave: Back in the playoffs and hopefully putting up a better show than last year.
And what's the worst-case scenario?
Dave: 1st on the clock. Probably more likely!!
Having broken their playoff duck last season, how do the Bills get themselves back to the playoffs again this year?
Dave: Absolutely everyone to step up and a lot of luck! One of our QBs establishing themselves is key
Predict your record for this season, and how far (if at all) you will go in the postseason.
Dave: 5 and 11 and no return to the playoffs unfortunately.
Tell us who you think will be lifting the Lombardi Trophy in Atlanta on February 3rd next year?
Dave: I’m going to go for the Rams.
Anything else you'd like to promote?
Dave: For UK Bills fans
